What you are saying is stupid. The Bismarck had no electronics. Tracking was manual and guns were heavy. Modern day battleships have immensely superior electronics and guns good enough to shoot down a missile in mid flight, or for that matter an entire squadron of enemy aircraft almost simultaneously.
Now advanced spaceships should be even more superior. Technology would not have regressed, would it? And noone would be stupid enough to build a kilometer long battleship without making absolutely sure it fits immesely more tracking electonics on board. The locking should therefore be instantaneous. True, big guns might move slower, but the game should let you replace a big gun slot by a battery of fast gattling guns, e.g. a la modern aircraft carrier.
This is not WW2. This is ultra modern warfare. A BS should be able to annihilate every frig in its proximity without a scratch. This would be realistic.
Yay I get to talk about miltary history! First of all the last US Navy Battleship was comissioned in 1944 with the last Royal Navy ship comissioned in 1960.. So "modern" battleships dont exist. Some were refitted for use in Desert Storm but those were just used in long rang land bombardment.
Tracking of the Bismark was not by any means manual, it had one of the most sophisticated fire control systems seen at the time, with accuracy that would still be impressive for a large ship today. A large gun is going to be heavy, no way to avoid that.. and a large gun simply isnt going to consistantly hit a small ship, I think the eve "partial hit" system with turrets is odd, they should either hit hard or not hit.. But that doesnt change the fact that large heavy guns arent very likely to hit small fast moving objects.
EVE missile damage makes more sense because it is based on blast damage rather than direct impact. A setup made to specifically to fight large ships should struggle against packs of small ones. Besides decent drone skills should send those frigs packing..
Referring to shooting down missiles and Airplanes.. That would be your Aegis support cruisers doing that.. With the Phalanx system and SAM
A large ship without support has always been vulnerable, always has and always will.. Bismark for example ran around without support.. It happens to be on the bottom.
